Have you ever wanted to be on the first page of Google?

Do you also get those annoying emails saying that this company, or this person, can instantly get you on the first page of Google… and for only 29 dollars. Or some other ridiculously low price? Are you tempted?

It does seem crazy that these emails come in, and that some of us fall for the offer.

But the truth is that anyone can get onto the first page of Google if you understand how page rank, Google clever little formula, actually works. And of course, if you go after keywords that you can actually compete on instead of going after highly competitive terms.

Getting to the first page of Google is about the number, and quality, of incoming links pointing at your website pages. If you have more links than your competitors then you will be listed higher in the results.

Now, the search engines obviously use a lot more than just pagerank to decide which website pages to present to the searcher in the serps (Search Engine Result Pages). But by far the most important factor is the quantity of incoming links and their reputation.

Here is the wikipedia page I used in the increasing page rank video if you want to read further.
